HOW IT BEGAN

It Was Born
the Year I Turned Fifty

"I have never quite known how to explain what Lumière is. It was not something I decided one day. It came slowly — a word, then another. A season passing. And then, suddenly, something worth sharing."

I turned fifty and realized the years behind me had quietly become a kind of knowledge - and knowledge is only ever fully itself when it is given away. Lumière was born from that. Not ambition - generosity. Everything here is something I have lived, tested, and collected. For you. With love.

Everything you find here has been lived, tested, and collected. Not for show — for sharing. That is the only reason any of it exists.

THE NAME

On the Word
Lumière

I chose the name for everything it carries. Lumière -the French word for light — is both something we see and something we feel.

Lumière, Literally, it is light — what photographers chase, what painters have always known as the difference between a painting that breathes and one that does not. It also carries a deeper meaning: clarity, knowledge, truth.

It connects to Les Lumières, the French Enlightenment -the courage to look at the world with open eyes. And then there is the layer I love most: warmth, atmosphere, feeling. The softness of a late afternoon. Something between science and sensation. That is what I wanted this to be. A space that illuminates — not dazzles.

WHO I AM

Polish. Spanish at Heart.
Citizen of the World.

Born in Poland. In Barcelona for more than twenty years now — long enough to call it, genuinely, home. Before that: Marseille's wild salt air, and Rome, entirely unforgettable.

Years working on American cruise lines taught me to watch how women dress for a hundred different climates and never lose themselves. That is where this whole magazine began.

Not content. A record of a life lived with attention — tested over years, in real places. Offered not as authority, but as companionship. As one woman saying to another: this worked for me. Perhaps it will work for you too.

À MA FAÇON

A Space for
Those Who Prefer Depth Over Noise

"I am not an expert. I am not a brand. I am a woman who has lived in several countries, crossed many seas, and developed strong opinions about many things.

I started this because I turned fifty and understood, suddenly, that I had something to leave behind. Not a monument — a conversation.

That is all Lumière has ever been. A light. Held up with love."

Yours, Donata
